Tower Lake
Johnson, Ontario, Canada
Tower Lake is a beautiful small lake with a lot to offer. Fishermen will find a variety of fish including Stocked Splake, and Rock Bass. Whether you’re spinning, fly fishing or baitcasting, your chance of catching fish here is pretty good. Tower Lake is a great location for a relaxing day at the lake, providing plenty of room for picnics, and clear water for swimming. This beach is unsupervised; therefore, caution must be used when swimming as the depth of the water drops quickly. Tower lake provides plenty of room for parking, has an unmaintained bathroom, and requires dogs to be leashed.
Hikers will enjoy a 22 km portion of the Voyager Trail that begins a Tower Lake and ends at Rydal Bank. A 4 km loop hike is also accessible from Tower Lake, which should take 2-2.5 hours. It begins at the Tower Lake picnic area on Lonely Lake Road (follow Hwy 638 about 18 km from Echo Bay). This area has good swimming and provides parking, outhouses and firepits. To access the trail, follow the beach to the western side of the lake and onto the road. The white-blazed trail leaves the road to the right and parallels the lake through a mature forest. At the north end of Tower Lake the trail begins to climb away from the lake basin. When you reach a country road (Two Horse Lake Rd.) turn right (south) and follow the road then turn right (west) onto Lonely Lake Rd. to head back to the Tower Lake picnic area.
