Lake Tutira at camp ground
Tutira, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

Lake Tutira is the second largest lake in Hawke’s Bay, located approximately 50km north of Napier.
It is a popular weekend and holiday place through the summer, and includes a camping ground, sheltered picnic tables, scenic views.
The lake has had a history of poor water quality, but due to better land management, became swimmable in February 2021.
The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council monitors the water quality of the lake, including the bacteria levels (E.coli) and the risk of algal blooms.
Cercarial dermatitis, otherwise known as ‘duck itch’ has been reported from the lake, and research shows that using sunscreen containing phenoxyethanol will help repel the organism responsible for the rash.
