Heckscher Overlook Beach
East Islip, New York, United States
Overlook Beach is not very crowded and these calm waters make for great swimming, fishing, and boating. Heckscher’s sheer size as a park means there are many other things to do, including hiking and biking through the nearly 1,500 acres. The Park offers beaches, picnic tables with pavilions, a playground and athletic fields, recreation programs, hiking and biking, fishing, a campground with tent and trailer sites, cross-country skiing, a boat launch, and a food concession. Heckscher State Park is one of the top camping grounds in the US: campers have a choice of 69 different locations where they can pitch their tents! The park is also known as the “Home of the White-tailed Deer” because deer are famous throughout. Open year-round, 7 days a week, 7am to sunset. $5 entrance fee per car from May 25 to September. The only pets allowed are dogs, and they must be on a leash not longer than 6 feet. They are not allowed in camping, bathing, picnic areas, in buildings or on walkways. Overlook Beach is open June 23-September 18, 10am to 6pm, Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays only.
