Gray Whale State Beach, otherwise known as Devil's Slide, is located in Half Moon Bay, part of western San Mateo County. The beach is called Gray Whale because gray whales can often be seen close to the shore. Indeed, the Gray Whale State Beach is part of Montara State Marine Reserve & Pillar Point State Marine Conservation Area, and aims at protecting marine areas, conserving ocean wildlife and marine ecosystems .
The beach features a sheltered cove surrounded by cliffs that drop into the Pacific Ocean, a beautiful scenery characteristic of the Central California's coast. Sunbathe and relax while admiring this wonderful and unique scenery.
If you are looking to explore the area you can walk along trails nearby Montara Mountain and McNee Ranch State Park.
For those coming with their lunches, a small picnic area is available.
