Where the Avon and Heathcote rivers converge can be found one of the country’s most important wetland regions, and home to a large number of bird species and the Te Huingi Manu Wildlife Refuge. The beaches here are known for gales of a stiff wind, making them top destinations for windsurfers. The park is located on the southwestern side of the New Brighton Spit.
